Robot lawnmower on grass

Yes, robot lawnmowers.   Although the scene from one of my favorite childhood movies, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, is a lot cooler, a set and forget lawnmower is awesome.

Roombas and other autonomous robot vacuum cleaners have been around for over a decade, but their lawn mowing counterparts have been slower to hit the market.  I think it is something about the liability of leaving something in your yard that will automatically start spinning a giant blade that has slowed the development.  Finally, there are multiple options on the market for robot lawnmowers.  Here are a few good options.

Worx Landroid

Worx’s Landroid uses a artificial Intelligence algorithim to detect obstacles and navigate narrow paths around trees.   Security features include a security PIN to help deter theft of the mower.  Worx touts a user friendly control system, and ability to program times and other settings.  The WSJ says “…we found this robot the simplest to set up, easily taking it from its box to its maiden voyage.”

Robomow RS630

The Robomow RS630 is on the higher end of the Robomow product offerings.   The manufacturer touts precise cutting, more power than competitors, and a fast and efficient mow.  Robomow offers a companion app available on iOS and Android to remotely control and adjust your mower.  Want to feel a little more hands on?  Use the app to guide and drive the mower yourself.

Husqvarna’s Automower 450X

Husqvarna, the big name in commercial and consumer-grade chainsaws now offers the Automower 450X.  The Automower 450x offers the largest working area capacity at 1.25 acres but also has the highest price tag.  If you have a larger lawn, this will be your best bet.

Robomow RX12

The RX Clever is the newest model offered by Robomow.  As we discussed in the RS Royal line previously, Robomow offers a companion app for its mowers.   The RX12 is only suitable for small lawns approximately 1/20 of an acre.  It also is the lowest price on our list.

Once you buy your robot mower, you will need to decide what to do with all your free time on the weekends.
